ROSALINE "ROSE" YURIKO (QUILINDERINO) BALLUNGAY

74, of Wahiawa, Oahu, passed away on December 17, 2018, from Alzheimer’s disease at Wahiawa General Hospital, Long Term Care Center. She was born on September 22, 1944, in Ewa, Oahu. The daughter of Calixto Quilinderino, who worked for Ewa Sugar Plantation, and Doris Miyashiro Quilinderino. The family moved to Kaukonahua Camp, Wahiawa when her father went to work for Hawaiian Pineapple Company. Hawaiian Pineapple Company, in the late 1950s, moved many company homes from all the camps with workers and families to Whitmore Village where offices, shops, and truck sheds were located. Every work day everyone would hear the company morning horn to start a new work day. This is where Rose grew up.
She attended the old Helemano Elementary School where the Helemano Plantation and Wellness Center is now located and the new Helemano Elementary and Intermediate School which relocated to Whitmore Village. She graduated from Leilehua High School Class of 1962. She attended and received her Secretarial Diploma from Honolulu Business College in 1964. Immediately found employment with Financial-Security Insurance Company of Honolulu.
On March 20, 1965, Rose and Ray were married. Rose joined Ray at Fort Bliss, Texas in April 1966, where he was undergoing army advance and deployment training. While Ray was overseas she went to live with her sisters and brothers-in law in Los Angeles, California. She found employment with Cypress Insurance Company in the business district of Los Angeles City. The Company later move to Hollywood at Sunset Blvd. and Vine Street,
then moved again to South Pasadena then to Pasadena where it became a subsidiary of billionaire Warren Buffet Business Organization. Rose retired after 29 years with Cypress Insurance Company.
In 1996, Rose and Ray returned to Wahiawa to be close to her brothers Johnny (deceased at birth), Frank, Herbert and James. Her favorite time of the year was Thanksgiving when she cooked nishime and made namasu as well as turkey dinner for brothers and their families.
During her retirement years she joined the Wahiawa Seniors Rainbow Club, the Wahiawa Ballroom and Line Dance Club, learned to dance the hula and became a member of the Red Hat Society Party Hearty Wahines chapter. She was a devoted and faithful disciple of the Mililani Community Church.
Rose loved to travel. She traveled to and visited all 48 states by car, AMTrack train making new friends and went on cruises and land excursions with friends to many foreign countries including the Far East, Australia, New Zealand, South America, Europe, Mexico, Canada, and Alaska.
She is survived by husband Ray; sister Bernice Quilinderino (Edward) Powell; hanai sister Shirley Navarro Sandobal, and many loving nieces and nephews.

Celebration of Life Service: January 31, 2019, Thursday,
Mililani Memorial Park, Mauka Chapel.

Visitation: 9:00 a.m. Service at 10:00 a.m. Casual or Aloha attire. Burial: 2:00 p.m. at the Hawaii State Veterans Cemetery, Kaneohe.
